In a quest to save a few quid I try many things, and one of the most popular and effective things is getting cashback. Shopmium is an app that offers cashback for individual products in supermarkets. I’ve been trying it for the past year, so thought I’d share my honest opinion of it and how it works. There’s even a free product for you, if you fancy trying the app for yourself!
What is Cashback?
Cashback is when a company, bank or app give back some of what you paid for shopping through them. You either have to buy through a specific site or (as with Shopmium) redeem cashback after purchase. You pay the full price at the time of purchase, wait for it to be verified, then receive a set amount or percentage at a later date.
What is the Shopmium App and How Does it Work?

As mentioned, Shopmium is an app (on android and iPhone) that gives cashback on an ever-changing list of individual products. They are generally products found in grocery stores and are available for a set amount of time. They can be purchased online or in-store and you can scan several purchases on the same receipt.
It’s very easy to submit a purchase and personally I have never had a redeem rejected. First check the list of products available and decide on the ones you want. You then buy the product(s), making sure to get a receipt. Then within the app, take a photo of the receipt and scan the barcode of the item(s). You’ll then have to wait for the purchase to be verified, and you can leave a quick review. Once it’s accepted, your cashback will be added to your account total.
There is a £10 threshold, but when you reach that you’ll be paid through either paypal or directly to your bank account.
What I Like About the Shopmium App.

The app is very well designed, it’s simple to use, and they cover a good range of shops. There is a fairly low threshold for payment and they sometimes have products that you can get 100% cashback on, essentially making them free!
There is also a generous refer-a-friend offer where you and your friend both receive a treat as a thank you for sharing the app. The offers can change, but at the time of writing this you can get a FREE bag of Cadbury Giant Buttons when you use my code TI4B4J.
One feature I also love is the clubs. When you redeem your first purchase, you’ll be made part of the Silver club. There’s also a Gold club which is fairly easy to get into and has some good perks. To join the Gold club you need to first submit 10 requests and to maintain it you need to submit at least one cashback every 30 days.
Silver Club Perks: Receive payments in less than 2 working days. If you contact customer services you’ll get a reply in one working day. You can also take part in the Shopmium community with surveys, choosing referral gifts and exclusive challenges.
Gold Club Perks: (in addition to all of the silver club perks) Extra exclusive challenges. A special preview of offers before they go live. A special birthday gift. Access to offers reserved for a short time. Credit for gold anniversary if you maintain the status for one year.

What I Would Change.
The main thing I would like to see is a wider range of products available. Due to the nature of the app, the products found on there are new, branded, processed foods and household products. Being the frugal people we are here, unprocessed or store brand products often still work out cheaper.
It’s not necessarily something I would change, but it’s important to read the terms for each offer. That way you’re more likely to have your redeems verified. It’s worth remembering that as with all cashback, it is not guaranteed, so make sure you can afford the purchase in the first place.
Is Shopmium Worth It?
Because the app is easy and quick to use, I will be keeping Shopmium on my phone for sure! With 4.3 stars on Google Play and 4.8 on IOS, it looks like I’m not the only one who likes it either. It doesn’t take long to check the offers and redeeming only takes a few seconds, so it’s not like you need to invest much time or energy.
You won’t save a fortune through Shopmium, even if you tried every item available. But those pennies do add up and with the cost of groceries now, it all helps. If nothing else, the app is fun, you never know when you’re going to find a freebie and it’s a great way to discover new products!
Don’t forget, if you want to try Shopmium for yourself, you can grab yourself some FREE chocolate buttons by using the referral code TI4B4J when you sign up.
